Muslim female doctor explaining chart to patient at hospitalThe Medical Interpreter 40-hour Course offers an introduction to cross-cultural communications in a medical setting exclusively and is offered primarily for hospital and clinic staff working with LEP patients and their families. It’s intended for “dual-role interpreters,” meaning medical professionals who will be using their interpreting skills while carrying out their professional duties. This course is in English using the internationally recognized Cross-Cultural Communications curriculum “The Medical Interpreter” available online or onsite when possible. The healthcare institution will select and refer staff members for the training. A minimum of nine and a maximum of 16 participants is required.

Prerequisites

  1. Age 18 or older.
  2. Must be bilingual and successfully pass the reading comprehension and language proficiency assessments.
  3. Have a high school diploma or equivalent.

Registration

The healthcare institution will identify and refer the staff members who will be participating in the course.
